The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, has requested that the Fire Protection and Rescue Service in all municipalities of the country should be transformed and approach the standards of the EU member states.
Balla demanded energetic and quick intervention at the inspection level in the Fire Service, to prevent events with consequences in the future and preserve the life and property of citizens.
"In 2023, 3,498 inspections were carried out and the difference with administrative measures is very large, only 42 measures were imposed. I can't believe there are so few violations. I see two possibilities, either the inspections are selective on subjects that do not have problems, or they were carried out without analyzing the real problems", the minister underlined.
He emphasized the key importance of this vital service for citizens.
"If an inspection is not carried out in a building and an accident occurs there, it is the conditions for abuse of duty", he said.
The minister appealed for the integrity of the inspectors of the MOH. Further, Balla demanded total reformation of the Fire Service, at the national inspection level.
"The fire service needs more tangible standardization and improvement, both in the General Directorate and also at the local level", declared Balla, in a meeting held with the leaders of the Service in 61 local units in Albania.
The minister said that the full sub-legal basis for recruitment, training, data management, as well as improving the transparency of inspections of businesses should be completed.
The tourist season has started and summer is approaching like a season, the problems of fires have started.
"We are all well aware that everything I said is an incomplete epicrisis of the situation. I know very well that in some municipalities we do not have the right fleet of firefighting vehicles, there are not the right employees in some local units trained in this service, but local leaders must understand that working in this service is not a job. because it endangers the very life of that person who has been appointed to that task who has no knowledge", stated Balla.
He spoke about the immediate change of the situation, referring to the data provided by the inspections for this year.
"There should not be any object with great public intensity, such as a hotel, cinema, etc., without being inspected", said the Minister of the Interior, who in the first days of the year signed an order that compels the MOH to carry out inspections in every subject.
"Albania, the champion of tourism in the Balkans, also needs a champion fire service", underlined Balla, saying that he will not stop the commitment to take care of this Service.
