Since August 15, Rapid Intervention Forces personnel in Tirana have not been paid their per diems.
The Tirana Police Department is composed of over 200 officers, who perform frequent services outside the capital, often in auxiliary operations to other police stations in the districts.
According to "A2 CNN", payments for per diems are made only after the relevant fund is approved by the Ministry of Interior, but this process has been suspended for more than two months. The officers are being forced to cover their own expenses for food, accommodation and transportation during their services outside Tirana.
The law stipulates that police officers receive 55,000 old lek per day for each service outside their residence, an amount that covers hotel, food, and basic necessities. Not only have these payments not been made, but according to the law and regulations, officers should receive the money in advance before leaving on a mission, which in practice is not happening, but at least the 2 months that have passed should be paid.
The situation has caused dissatisfaction among the police, as many of them say that they are now paying for services out of pocket, while a reaction or solution is awaited from the Ministry of Interior to unblock the per diem fund.
