Mirlinda Karçanaj has been dismissed from her position as director of the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI).
Igli Tafa has been appointed to replace Mirlinda Karçanaj. Tafa previously held the position of director at the National Cyber Security Authority, a confidant of Prime Minister Rama, who managed millions of lek in this institution.
"Pamphlet" has previously denounced how Igli Tafa had turned the institution into a fun office, where certain individuals were employed and only received money, but the systems they were supposed to take care of were easily hackable.
Meanwhile, the Director of the National Agency for Information Society, Mirlinda Karçanaj, as well as Hava Delibashi, will continue to remain under "house arrest", following investigations by SPAK that revealed how tens of millions of euros were stolen from taxpayers' pockets through false procurement processes and manipulation of procedures at the National Agency for Information Society.
Previously, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted to SPAK's accusations against AKSHI.
According to him, SPAK has made unfair accusations against the director, Mirlinda Karçanaj.
Rama emphasized that AKSHI is facing an investigation by SPAK for the use of funds, focusing on Mirlinda Karçanaj, who led the realization of the government's vision for the digital transformation of the state with dedication and knowledge for 12 years.
For the other persons under investigation, previously determined security measures were left in effect.
AKSHI is the key institution in the development and management of state digital platforms, including the e-Albania portal and other electronic public service systems.
There is no information yet whether a new director has been appointed to head the institution, or whether the duty will be temporarily exercised by a deputy director.
Likewise, there has been no public reaction from Mirlinda Karçanaj regarding the decision to leave.
It is expected that an official announcement will follow with additional details on the reasons and procedure followed for this change in the leadership of the NAIS.
