Traffic in the tunnel area in Qafë Thore was disrupted this morning after several avalanches blocked the road.
Heavy overnight rainfall and temperatures hovering around freezing created unstable terrain on the mountain slopes. The mass of accumulated snow broke off and ended up on the road, blocking the passage of vehicles.
Authorities are identifying an increased risk of further landslides due to the thickness of the snow and thermal fluctuations. The responsible structures are following developments on the ground and will intervene to clear the segment as soon as conditions allow for safe work.
Until the situation stabilizes, the axis remains impassable.
"The Prefecture of Shkodra District has updated the hydrometeorological situation for February 20, 2026, at 08:10, announcing that civil emergency structures continue monitoring on the ground.
In the Municipality of Shkodra, the operation in the village of Obot is continuing, where 6 forces and 1 vehicle from the Military Unit 1010, Vau i Dejës, have been engaged. The water level on the road axis has reached about 30 cm, while the rainfall continues from time to time with high intensity. So far, there are no reports of houses surrounded by water.
According to data from DRUK Lezha, water levels remain below critical levels. The lake level is 7.85 m (critical level 9.50 m), while the Drin River is at 7.60 m (critical level 10.00 m). During the last 24 hours, about 25 mm of rainfall has been recorded. Drainage and flood protection infrastructures appear to be functional.
Regarding the road axes, there is rainfall in the Koplik–Bogë and Dedaj–Razem segments, while snowfall continues on the Bogë–Theth axis, with a thickness of over 50 cm, increasing the risk of avalanches. The relevant structures are on full alert.
In the municipalities of Malësi e Madhe and Vau i Dejës, rainfall has been of average intensity, with no problems reported. While in Pukë and Fushë-Arrëz, the situation appears stable and under control.
"The Shkodra District Prefecture announces that monitoring of the situation will continue and there will be further announcements in the event of new developments," the announcement states.
