Another strong chapter has been revealed in the investigation into the Durrës Marina project, after construction engineer Dhimitër Papa admitted to the show "Piranjat" that the complex's buildings have suffered a decrease of up to 18 centimeters and that the initial project with concrete piles was changed at the request of experts from Dubai.
According to the Pope, the concrete piles were replaced with ballast piles after "technical debate" with the project's foreign experts, who insisted that this methodology was also used in Dubai.
He stated that "the piles were filled with concrete," but the company sought another technical solution.
In the tense interview, the constructor initially disputed the published figures for the subsidence of the buildings, denying the 28-centimeter subsidence reported by IKMT, but admitted that the buildings have suffered subsidence of up to 18 centimeters.
The Pope attributed the problem to the digging of holes around the buildings, stating that the removal of water and sand from neighboring construction sites created the phenomenon of "suffocation", which according to him brought about greater subsidence than that foreseen in the project.
Meanwhile, subcontractor Mirel Elmazaj, whose company carried out the works on the two affected buildings, stated that "the subsidence is normal", but then accused IKMT of incorrect measurements and said that the institutions "have been pushed by public pressure".
On the other hand, Dhimitër Papa's wife and collaborator, engineer Armeda Gramos, admitted that the facilities have suffered "considerable decline," but insisted that the project was carried out responsibly and according to technical calculations.
The "Piranjat" investigation also revealed that the people involved in the project had contractual restrictions on speaking publicly, while so far the National Inspectorate for Territorial Protection has officially confirmed subsidence of 18 and 28 centimeters in two of the complex's buildings./ Piranjat News
