"We have only one thing left to do: die," resident of Theth bursts

As they had warned, the residents of Thethi took to the streets this Wednesday to protest against the IKMT's action to demolish 40 unauthorized buildings that began on Monday. They blocked the bridge at the entrance to the village, while there were also tensions with the police forces, who were present at the scene.

A disabled resident who came out to protest against the demolition of buildings in Theth burst into tears as he said he had invested his life savings.

He says he has built 5 wooden houses on his inherited land over the years, and that he has not done a single inch of concrete.

Asked about permission, he says they applied but were not granted it.

"All the expenses of life. I built 5 wooden houses without concrete and nothing on my land. We asked but they say there is no permit, the land is mine, it is inherited from generation to generation. We ask the state not to destroy it because we are on a major road. Unless I die, I don't know what my family will live on. We intend for the state to leave us to live. They themselves said to invest, I am not a newcomer but I am here. The land is ours for 200 years. As they said, we have invested, there is not a single inch of concrete," says the resident.
