Residents of Rrjoll continued their protest this Saturday against the construction of a tourist resort by oligarch Bashkim Ulaj, seeking support from citizens across the country.
There was also a presence of police forces in this protest, while residents have repeated accusations that the blue uniforms are protecting, according to them, the land grabbers.
In statements to the media, resident Luçjana Kokaj and lawyer Ndue Pjetërqaj explained the situation and emphasized that they will not back down from their stance.
"The arrival of people from all over Albania today in Rrjoll shows that this is a wound not only of Rrjoll. Rrjoll has made an amazing resistance to protect its right, the legacy of its ancestors. Work is being done there at a frightening pace. We are in court proceedings, we are waiting for the Shkodra prosecution to come up with a decision. We are ready to continue with international expertise because we will not allow anyone to privatize our property. We will come and be here every day. Meanwhile, the prosecution has not closed the investigation for 1 year, which naturally creates suspicions. We are not against development, but we cannot allow someone to work on our land and completely exclude us," said Luçiana Kokaj.
"It's not a problem that we will make a mess with the opponents we have here. I appeal to Albanians, because the only place is Rrjolli, the lands of all Albanians are in danger. If Rrjolli is overthrown by this government, then no citizen will have the right to claim the properties taken by the force of power. We are not in the 9 that these parties asked for the north to fight against the south. Today we appeal to everyone to come and show solidarity because the situation is not normal, it could escalate into dangerous actions," said Ndue Pjetra.
Citizens from other areas of the country have also joined the protest, while a resident from the Duchy of Vlora has raised concerns about the issue of ownership, describing it as a widespread problem at the national level.
During the protest, minor clashes with the police were also recorded. Some residents attempted to enter the construction site area through alternative routes, but were stopped by law enforcement.
