Security expert Ervin Karamuço spoke this Thursday evening regarding security in prisons, following the escape of Altin Ndoc, which occurred two days ago.
Karamuço said that, according to him, the Durrës institution has long since fallen, as it has not guaranteed the protection of prisoners.
" In fact, the first measure that has been taken in all these years, and that has occurred within the prison system, has been this. Is it a measure that dictates security? I don't know. Durrës only has a high-security section, like all other prisons. So where is the difference? This is a signal that, according to the Prison Directorate, the rules have been seriously broken in Durrës prison. Even when protection is not guaranteed for these characters from the criminal world, they should be moved to other institutions. No security elements of the prison itself were broken, but what comes to mind first is that security is not guaranteed. This institution has fallen, it does not guarantee functionality ," Karamuço said on "Now" on Euronews Albania.
He further provided arguments and reasons for the measure taken to transfer 33 prisoners from the Durrës detention center.
" For me, according to the law, these should be treated the same as in the Peqin prison and in Fier. Durrës is not safe. Another incident just happened, so this act was taken to distribute them to other prisons. This measure was taken because there was concern that something could happen even within the security perimeter. I think this was the main reason why the 33 convicts were transferred to the Fier and Peqin prisons ," said Karamuço.
