The Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela and the Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, and other representatives of these prosecution offices, held a working meeting with the Federal Prosecutor General of Belgium, Ann Fransen, on November 18-19, in Brussels, Belgium.
The coordination meeting was held within the framework of the cooperation agreements signed between the parties and following the meetings held last year in Tirana. The discussions focused on issues related to the fight against organized crime, financial investigations, laundering of proceeds of crime, the use of cryptocurrencies in criminal activities, the coordination of investigations and the establishment of joint investigation teams. Legal assistance issues were also addressed, including the execution of criminal decisions and letters rogatory.
The participants in this meeting very positively assessed the cooperation to date and underlined the importance of further expanding it through a broader exchange of information, with the aim of fully investigating criminal activities affecting both countries.
Meanwhile, legal opportunities for further improving the level of coordination were also discussed, especially in terms of the efficient implementation of anti-mafia legislation, with the aim of seizing and confiscating criminal assets against subjects investigated or convicted in both countries.
