Journalist Artan Hoxha has spoken again about his detention at the border crossing with Greece and his declaration as persona non grata two days ago.
Hoxha says the Greek authorities did not give him any official reason for the decision and treated him with procedures that, as he said, are usually applied to people with criminal problems.
He said it all started without warning: “ When I was crossing the border, they stopped me at the first line. After checking my passport in the system, they told me there was a problem. They spoke to me in Albanian, while I spoke to them in Greek at first. They did not return my passport and sent me to the second line, to the area where the police station is located .”
“ The officer asked me to leave my fingerprints and retina. I told him that I am not a criminal and I have no criminal record in Greece to be fingerprinted. He told me that it was a mandatory procedure if I wanted to get my passport, ” Hoxha explained.
After the procedures, the interrogation began. The journalist says he was surprised when the Greek officer asked him about his attitudes towards Greece.
" He told me why you had this attitude towards Greece. I was stunned. I told him that I don't know how to have a phobia towards Greece. I was even active during last year's campaign for the European Parliament elections ," he confessed.
Hoxha emphasized that his belief is that the persona non grata declaration is related to his positions on the Fredi Beleri issue.
" When Beleri became part of Greek domestic politics and announced his candidacy, the Greek opposition media had their own materials against him, and they even supplied me with them. Apparently this exposure of his past created problems, also showing the role of Greek justice in helping criminals escape extradition to Albania ," Hoxha told News24.
