A large-scale fire has engulfed Mount Shpirag in the city of Berat today, burning down significant areas of bushes, pine trees and dense vegetation. The flames have spread rapidly due to strong winds, putting local authorities and emergency structures on alert.
Over 30 fire engines and dozens of Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) personnel have been deployed to the scene, with reinforcements from neighboring districts requested to help deal with the situation. However, the intervention has been significantly hampered by the rugged mountainous terrain, which hinders the movement of heavy vehicles and favors the spread of flames.
Authorities announce that so far no homes or lives have been reported to be at risk, but the call for caution remains high.
