An act of heroism has shocked Delvina today, where the head of the city's Police Station, Commissioner Agim Troci, was seriously injured during efforts to rescue several elderly people from the powerful fire that engulfed the village of Vergo.
Troci suffered multiple burns and was immediately taken to the burn unit of the QSUT, where he is under the care of doctors.
This evening, the Director of the State Police, Ilir Proda, visited Troci in the hospital, describing him as an inspiring example of dedication and humanity. " Chief of the Police Station Agim Troci is the best example of the sacrifice and courage of a police officer, who acts to protect the lives of his citizens ," declared Proda, also praising the other employees of the police station who today risked their lives to evacuate dozens of residents, mainly elderly, from areas engulfed by flames.
Deputy Commissioner Eridioni was also injured in the intervention, suffering from asphyxia and is receiving treatment at Delvina Hospital, while several other officers suffered minor injuries.
Currently, the Fire Department, Civil Emergency, Police and Army services continue the battle to neutralize the fires in the villages of Senicë, Vergo and Kopacëz, while residents are appealed to show extreme caution to avoid new flare-ups that could worsen the situation.
