The Durrës Court has suspended the director of Pre-University Education, Hazbi Lika, from his duties.
Lika is suspected of the criminal offense of abuse of office after failing to issue an order to inspect kindergartens and nurseries that were operating without licenses.
The decision was also confirmed by the local official himself. Lika told the media that he was informed of the suspension and that the reason was an inspection by the Durrës Prosecutor's Office in 2023.
But he denied any knowledge of the authority that he had to issue this order.
"I did not issue an order to inspect nurseries and kindergartens that were operating without licenses in the Durrës DRAPI Region. But I did not know that I had this competence," he said.
The Durrës Prosecutor's Office had investigated the case and requested the Court to suspend the local education official from his duties.
We recall that Hazbi Lika was appointed head of the Durrës Regional Directorate of Pre-University Education (DRAP) in May 2022, replacing Ana Dhamo.
