The Elbasan Prosecution Office has brought six police officers for criminal prosecution, accused of passive corruption and abuse of office. The officers, who served at the Road Traffic Section of the Local Police Directorate, are accused of knowingly tolerating drivers who violate traffic rules, in exchange for suspected corrupt benefits.
According to the official announcement of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Elbasan, the persons with the initials Xh.S., EH, AT, N.Xh., EK, and BT have been placed under investigation for the criminal offenses of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions" and "Abuse of office". The investigation, conducted in cooperation with the Elbasan-Korça Police Department, has revealed a repeated scheme of impunity for traffic violators, which constitutes direct damage to the public and financial interests of the state.
The accused allegedly did not impose fines on drivers, even when they found serious violations, openly violating their legal obligations. Instead of enforcing the law, they preferred to pocket personal benefits; an unacceptable behavior for the blue uniform and another alarm for the health of the Albanian police.
The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office calls on citizens to denounce any form of abuse and corruption by state employees. The fight against impunity does not end with these six names - it is time for the chain of responsibility to go higher.

The Prosecution Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Elbasan completed the investigations and sent to trial six police officers, citizens Xh.S., EH, AT, N.Xh., EK, and BT, on charges of the criminal offenses 'Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions' and 'Abuse of office' provided for by articles 259/1, 248 and 25 of the Criminal Code.
At the end of a full, comprehensive investigation using proactive investigation methods in cooperation with the AMP, Elbasan-Korçë Branch, on criminal proceeding no. 377 of 2024, several cases of corruption of police officers against drivers with the aim of not punishing them administratively were identified.
Citizens XH.S, EH, AT, N.XH, police officers at the Road Traffic Section of the Elbasan Local Police Directorate, have been charged respectively with committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions" and "Abuse of office", more than once, as provided for in article 259/1, 248, of the Criminal Code. While citizens EK, BT, for committing the criminal offense of "Abuse of office" in collaboration, as provided for in article 248 and 25 of the Criminal Code.
During their activities, these police officers, in cooperation with each other, even though they ascertained cases of administrative offenses by drivers, they intentionally did not proceed with the imposition of administrative measures, harming the financial interests of the state and the public interest.
The Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Elbasan calls on citizens to denounce any type of corrupt act or abuse of office by any public official with the aim of holding them criminally liable.
