Journalist Martin Leka, Teodor Keko and Fatos Nano

Journalist Martin Leka, invited to the "Gallery" in "E Diell", has recounted the difficult moments he went through while serving his prison sentence, including changing his cell 3 times, meeting Fatos Nano, but also ex- representatives of the Political Bureau such as Nexhmie Hoxha and Ramiz Alia.

A moment that he keeps in his memory for a long time is the exchange of letters with his wife Anila. Leka tells the story of how the letter she started inside a chocolate ended up in the 'hands' of Fatos Nano.

"The letter was sent to me in prison by Teodor Keko. Together with 7-8 people, we rode in the same car from Durrësi restaurant to there. The history of the prison is delightful but also extraordinary. They changed my cell three times. The first cell, in the first two days I stayed with Llambi Gegë Prifti and Hajred Çelik. After two days, while I was there, there was a knock on the door. Even the rascal ran away.

This was Fatos Nano, but I didn't get it. I was in the area where the political bureau was; Nexhmie Hoxha, Fatos Nano, I found out what I had to do with them, but I spent two days with them. Then the door slams because we were going to the toilet one after another and on the way back with Ramiz Ali. 'You came to interview me here', he told me. 'Yes' I replied. Just before Ramiz Alia was arrested, I was there for an interview. He told me that he will give it later. Give it to me now, I returned it. I felt that something was going to happen, but I couldn't tell him anything.

This cell you see here was horrible. See how wet it is. It was next to the bathroom. Fatos Nano warned me that you will go to this cell. Apparently, Fatosi had also tried it and it was a torture cell because it was cold, there was terrible humidity, there were millions of fleas. For anyone, today is incredible. I wrote to the lawyer to ask them to bring flea medicine, but they didn't bring it to me.

This is Anila's letter that ended up in Fatos Nano's cell. I had communication with Fatos through the letters of the policemen who sometimes threw them at the door. I would find a trusted policeman and say 'will you send me to the cell?'. He used to send it too. After a few days, I receive a chocolate from Anila. I ate half, gave half to the policeman and left the paper in the corner. So I kept it as paper, only the aluminum part I threw away. Meanwhile, Fatosi, he also had a chocolate like this one.

Anila had bought the chocolate, opened it, put the paper in it, glued it again with Vinoville and the chocolate was chocolate. The letter read, “Dear Martin, I have just received your letters. This is Valentine's Day… I didn't even know it was Valentine's Day. At the end 'kissing you longingly, Anila'. Meanwhile, after three days, I told Fatos through his ex-lawyer not to have a letter. Anila and fate's wife, Rexhina, had both bought the same chocolate. That's where things got mixed up. And Fatosi hears me answer. He understood the situation, puts it together, answers me back: 'I ate the chocolate, he will send Anila kisses'" said Leka./TCH
