Prosecutors have issued a joint statement regarding the plan to kill prosecutors Doloreza Musabelliu and Merita Selimi from Laert Haxhiu's gang. The community of prosecutors condemns the act and states that such events are reprehensible.
But they have also dealt a blow to politics, declaring that with their attitudes they are creating a climate of intimidation for magistrates.
REACTION OF THE PROSECUTORS OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA:
The community of prosecutors, as well as the entire public opinion, has become familiar in recent days with the preliminary results of a criminal proceeding, which show, up to this stage of the investigation, that individuals and criminal groups with significant social risk in the country have taken steps concrete in function of the realization of the plans for the physical elimination of two prosecutors of the Republic of Albania, due to their engagement in the investigation of serious criminal offences.
Expressing human support and solidarity for fellow prosecutors, as well as especially for their family members, who are most unfairly burdened by such developments, aware of the constitutional role and function of the prosecutor, we find the opportunity to express before the public opinion the position unified, that such events will in no way shake the full commitment of the prosecutors of the Republic of Albania for the uninterrupted continuation of the exercise of their duty with courage, dignity, professionalism and motivation, with the aim of bringing to the fore the criminal responsibility of anyone who is subject to a criminal offense or criminal activity.
Noting and appreciating to the maximum the concern expressed and the massive solidarity of public opinion regarding the case, we are sure that such developments only strengthen even more the attitude and conscience of the Albanian society for indignant distancing from those individuals or criminal groups that generally undermine public order and security, or the inherent democratic, social and economic development of the country.
We hope that such moments serve as a reflection for certain segments of public, political, media life and beyond, which, quite often, publicly ignore the basic norms of respecting the function and figure of the magistrate in a democratic society, create a climate that inspires personal attacks on magistrates, closely related to their duties.
Finally, we invite and encourage all public communication actors in the country to contribute to the development of a new, more constructive and confident approach to the justice system, as a premise for guaranteeing and implementing the principles of a state of law.
