Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about the recent actions of the Special Prosecutor's Office.
Invited to Euronews Albania, he said that according to him, although SPAK is doing a good job, it alone cannot fight corruption and organized crime.
The journalist says that SPAK's mission is to change the political and criminal elite.
Hoxha says that SPAK has been more successful in the fight against crime, which has influenced the low number of murders.
" SPAK alone has nothing to do, it can give us some examples, it can give us some symbols, but it cannot decide justice. At first sight it is clear who the mission of SPAK is, a change of the political elite during these 30 years and the rest is a change of elites within the world of crime. I think they have done a better job with crime than with corruption, that's why Albania has a record number of murders and a large number of the underworld who have escaped from Albania. To keep in mind, SPAKU has taken actions, checks have been made, seizures, documentation, inspections of apartments and offices have been made, but not in every case, SPAKU receives approval from the court ", said Hoxha.
The journalist also said that most of the prisoners are under investigation. According to him, this has a negative impact as the cost of detention is very high.
" We as a country have a problem, out of every 3 prisoners today, 2 are under investigation, it doesn't happen in any country in the world. We should keep people in prison after they are sentenced, not detain them because there is a very high cost during detention. The law has provided for other forms of removing the passport, property guarantee. This should become a norm in Albania except in flagrant cases ", said Hoxha.
