The Albanian Road Authority appeals to citizens that the Librazhd-Prrenjas road axis will be completely blocked, due to the bridge that is collapsing in the area known as "Arrat e Gurrës".
In the official announcement, the ARA calls on citizens to avoid this axis and use the alternative Maliq-Lozhan-Moglic-Gramsh-Elbasan route until the situation is fully stabilized.
"On the Librazhd-Pogradec axis, the place called Arrat e Gurrës, after an on-site assessment, the Albanian Road Authority, in coordination with the State Police, for safety reasons announces that: The circulation of all vehicles in this segment will be prohibited.
Meanwhile, the ARRSH is taking the necessary measures to immediately build a temporary bypass for the safety of citizens and vehicles.
We call on drivers to avoid this axis, while car users should use the alternative Maliq-Lozhan-Moglic-Gramsh-Elbasan route until the situation is fully stabilized.
"We ask for the understanding of all road users. Every measure taken has the sole purpose of guaranteeing life safety and preventing possible incidents," the ARA statement said.
Meanwhile, the director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, said that traffic will remain blocked until a provisional measure is taken with a bypass next to the escarpment that is currently being developed.
"We have been under surveillance for weeks now, but over the last 48 hours there has been a significant deterioration, and we are forced to temporarily block traffic until a provisional measure is implemented with a Bypass on the side of the escarpment that we are developing. There is a continuous development in deterioration, as from this morning the displacement of the bridge was 27 cm, while it is currently 29 cm. From the visit below the bridge, the concrete is crumbling. So we are forced to make a total blockade not only for heavy vehicles as we announced in the morning, but also for normal vehicles. Today in the morning we held a meeting, and the conclusion was this. But we were verifying correctly on the ground so that it was the right measure. The bridge at this moment does not appear absolutely safe.", he said.
Meanwhile, the situation has had immediate consequences for traffic. The convoy of buses with a capacity of 40 seats has reached 2–3 kilometers, both at the entrance to Librazhd and in the Hotolisht area.
