Today, the court hearing is being held for the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj and other persons for whom SPAK provided security measures.

In this session, which was scheduled to be held yesterday, the security measures are being re-evaluated, 3 with prison arrest and two under house arrest. It is learned that Beqaj has strongly opposed SPAK's accusations in today's session.

In addition to Beqaj, Ermal Kurtulaj, his right-hand man, and Alfred NikollaBeqaj were arrested in connection with the embezzlement of EU funds, through the Saspak agency, which the former Minister of Health led, although before him, SPAK had started investigations related to health concessions.

The Special Prosecutor's Office clarified through a statement that the investigations showed that when he was running the SASPAC Agency, he set up a benefit scheme with fictitious invoices and procurement procedures, extorting EU funds (IPA II Program).

SPAK states that the funds for the activities of the SASPAC agency went to the predetermined winners according to the orders and directives given by Beqaj. In the function of this scheme, SPAK points out, Beqaj collaborated with Ermal Kurtulaj, his financier and close associate. According to SPAK, the restaurant "Gzona" inside the Castle of Tirana, although it has another person as administrator, is the hidden property of Beqaj.

SPAK states that Beqaj has invested in the "Gzona" restaurant since 2019 the sums of 21,411 euros and 4,666,110 new lek for the purchase of equipment and 34,783 euros as rental expenses.
