Analyst Ergys Mërtiri has commented on the current political situation in the country, assessing that political tensions are concentrated within the Democratic Party and not outside it.
According to Mërtir, the opposition has lost its political orientation and has become a force that serves the leader more than the public. He stressed that Sali Berisha is using the DP as a means of protection against justice and that there is no longer any voice of opposition within the party.
Mertiri also added that "January 21" remains an issue with a direct impact on Berisha's political fate, while accusing the latter of plunging the opposition into crisis to preserve his own personal interests.
" There is no tension outside the DP. We have two forces, one of which cannot fall from power and the other cannot come to power. Protests are signs to cover up internal crises. The opposition is a force that has lost its way. I do not expect there to be any change in the DP, since all the people in that party are brazenly siding with Berisha.
They all care about how they look in Berisha's eyes, rather than how they look in the eyes of the public. More than they should serve the public, they serve the leader. "January 21" is related to Berisha's political fate. "January 21" will have an impact if he is found guilty. Berisha is powerful enough to blackmail and threaten justice. He is worried about "January 21", "Partizan" and every file that has been opened against him. I think that Berisha himself, after being declared "non grata", returned and did his best to take over the party just to be protected by the court.
"He had no choice but to do all this, he has swallowed the opposition, he has used it as an instrument to protect himself from justice. Berisha is not doing anything to strengthen the DP, but on the contrary he is turning that party into a minority. He is using the party as a protective fence from the court. Berisha is blocking every opposing voice in the DP, he does not even let a fly fly and is leading towards nothing. This party is heading towards the absurd and is normalizing the absurd within it, and this only to protect Berisha's political death," Mërtiri told "AbcNews".
