"Mundësia" Party MP Erald Kapri reacted today from the Korça Police Station, who issued a statement regarding the arrest of 27-year-old Kevi Muçllari two days ago after an argument with a member of the Pogradec Municipal Council.
This reaction comes after protests by residents of the village of Çërrava, who demanded the release of the young man and denounced the advisor for violating the law and conflict of interest, as he is an administration official and at the same time an advisor.
Kapri emphasized that he had gone there to support Muçllari's act, calling the arrest a sham and fabricated charges, demanding his immediate release.
"I left Tirana at least to greet and encourage Kevi Muçllari for his civic act that he did in the Pogradec Municipal Council. In a cunning and inhumane manner, he was arrested and there is a fabricated charge just for doing his civic duty. Today, I think that all Albanians should be proud that a young citizen, a 10th grade student in political science, stands up for the residents and goes to a meeting of the Municipal Council where instead of being encouraged, he is arrested and kept in prison without having the opportunity to meet him. I think that tomorrow, any judge who will have his case to give justice, should let him go free because we are clearly dealing with a violation of the Constitution and human rights," he said.
He stated that Muçllari's act should be congratulated and supported, while inviting citizens to protest and denounce the abusive acts of the Municipality of Pogradec, by alienating properties.
"Imagine the absurdity that a person dares to protest, to raise his voice, we live in a democratic country, is provoked by the mayor and false accusations are made against him by watching the video of all Albanians. Muçllari should be congratulated for the entire act he took because this is a model that should be encouraged in society. They should protest and not remain silent, and even more so since we are dealing with a corrupt act of the Pogradec Municipality that takes a common property from the residents and without showing the intention of what they will do with that property, forces the Municipal Council to alienate that community property ," said the MP.
He explained that he has also contacted the Ombudsman about the case, who has registered the case, while he would also request that the AMP investigate the Police for violations.
"I also contacted the Ombudsman today who confirmed to me that the case has been registered to see if there was a violation in the arrest of Muçllari. Also, as a deputy and as a member of the national security committee, I will ask the AMP to investigate the case of Muçllari because I believe that we are dealing with a violation of human rights and freedoms, how a citizen is arrested because he protested. This is another absurdity how a country aims to join the EU after several years, the young man is arrested because he protests. I think we are dealing with a pure political message, to tell all the residents of Çërrava, one of the largest villages in Korça, but also all of Albania that anyone who raises their voice will have their fate," he concluded.
