Intense rainfall has caused significant flooding in agricultural areas of Lezha, leaving large areas of land under water and damaging agricultural production.
According to field verifications, the damage is mainly concentrated on alfalfa and wheat crops, but the floods have also affected other agricultural crops. Local structures report that the impact on livestock and housing is more limited compared to the agricultural sector.
The Municipality of Lezha has engaged two working groups to inspect and record the damages. The Director of Agriculture, Paulin Gjergji, informs that the assessment process is in the final phase and is based on both the documentation submitted by the farmers and the controls carried out in the field.
"The evaluation process is nearing completion, based on both the documentation submitted by farmers and on-site inspections."
We are operating with two groups, one in Balldre and Zadrimë and the other in Zejmen and Shënkoll. We are currently in Spite i Zejmeni where 120 hectares of flooded land have been identified. Damage to housing, livestock, fruit trees and agriculture is also being verified. In total, there are 1700 hectares of flooded land and the process is expected to end this afternoon", explained the head of Agriculture in the Lezha Municipality.

Preliminary data shows that the damage has spread to about 1,700 hectares of agricultural land. About 60 percent of the damaged area belongs to alfalfa, 35 percent to wheat, while the rest includes crops such as olives, cabbages and citrus fruits.
Local authorities announce that, after the completion of the final report, the files will be forwarded to the responsible institutions for the continuation of support and compensation procedures for the affected farmers.
