Residents and representatives of several villages in the Elbasan area have decided to rise up in protest against the current Elbasan bypass project, demanding its review and the construction of functional entrances and exits for the areas affected by the road axis.
The protest has been announced for Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM, at the Gjove Bazaar in Mjeka.
According to residents, the current bypass project does not provide functional entrances and exits for the Elbasan-Cërrik axis and for dozens of villages in the area, making the investment without real impact on the community and the local economy.
Residents say that, in the absence of functional road connections, citizens, businesses, and the transport of agricultural products will continue to use the existing route, without benefiting from the new bypass.
The area affected by the project includes a large number of economic and tourist activities, such as agricultural production, active factories and businesses, the Llixha Thermal Baths and the Gjinari tourist area.
Among the villages that, according to residents, are directly affected by the project are Mjekësi, Papri, Tregani, Shtermeni, Thane, Gjergjani, Kuqani, Bujqësi, Jagodina, Kodër Bujarasi and several other areas along the axis.
The protesters' main demand is to review the project and include functional entrances and exits, so that the bypass has an economic and developmental impact for local residents and businesses.
The organizers have called on citizens and the media to be present at the protest to raise awareness among public opinion and responsible institutions about their concerns.
