Police tolerate/ Illegal betting shops in "Ali Dem" turn into crime

For several years, betting in Albania has become an illegal activity, and the State Police periodically reports the arrest of individuals who have websites for sports competitions on their phones or who play at poker tables hidden in garages or basements of buildings.

The police seek to spread the belief that they are determined to fight those whom Prime Minister Edi Rama considers "people with vices who destroy their families' finances on gambling."

But the reality in practice is much different than what is advertised. The most typical case is the "Ali Demi" area in Tirana.

One of the neighborhoods that has undergone a strong urban development in recent years has been transformed into a kind of "paradise" for illegal betting. It all happens under the eyes of the Police officers, who exercise their duties in the territory covered by Police Station No. 1, in Tirana, headed by Robert Losha.

An observation by "Boldnews.al" shows that in the "Ali Demi" area there are a series of bars, branded with the "333" and "CR7" logos. Sports betting enthusiasts are very clear that these bars serve as camouflage for illegal betting.

But Robert Losha's police seem reluctant to turn their heads away from these bars. They even try to deny their existence, even when serious criminal incidents take place in these bars.

At the end of April 2025, a serious incident occurred in the premises of one of the bars with the "333" logo in the Ali Demi area.

Two people, a father and son, have beaten and raped an individual named Lendi Palaj, widely known as the "manager" of the "333" chain of bars.

Footage published in the media showed that the two aggressors, Arjan Telhallari and his son, Lorenc Telhallari, went into the fight armed, but, fortunately, no weapons were used against their facility.

The head of Police Station No. 1 in Tirana, Robert Losha, in a statement distributed to the media, attempted to manipulate the motive for the incident, stating that the scene of the altercation was near an electoral office of the Social Democratic Party.

This type of distorted information, apparently, aimed to focus the conflict on political reasons, since the country was at the height of the electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025.

But the statements of Losha and the police station he heads were immediately refuted by media reports, which revealed that the cause of the conflict was betting and the debts they created.

In that case, Robert Losha not only did not dare to touch the illegal betting premises, but, on the contrary, through official announcement, attempted to manipulate public opinion about the real causes of the conflict between the Palajt and Telhallari families.

About two months after that event, precisely on the evening of June 10, 2025, another violent conflict occurred in the "Ali Demi" area, with the involvement of at least five people in physical fights, but with suspicions that weapons were also used.

Tirana Police, through data provided by Police Station No. 1, published a dry announcement about the event, without giving any reason or cause for the conflict.

As of the time of publication of this article, the reason for the conflict has not been officially explained, however, various media sources raise the suspicion that the fight took place due to illegal betting, which takes place freely in the area covered by Robert Losha, easily turning into crime scenes. / Bold News
