One protest, many divisions: the protest for the KLA increases divisions rather than bringing Kosovo closer to Albania...
Hundreds of citizens from Albania and Kosovo filled the streets of Tirana today in a protest organized in support of KLA fighters who are in The Hague.
With flags, KLA symbols and military uniforms, protesters have gathered in Skanderbeg Square, causing total chaos in the capital's traffic.

What initially appeared as a civic and non-political initiative to support liberation figures has taken the form of a political operation with a clear background. The protest became massive only after it was publicly promoted by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself, who was initially rumored to participate personally, but withdrew at the last moment. Meanwhile, Albin Kurti categorically refused the invitation to participate, which immediately exposed him to political attacks.
Rama's move is seen by analysts as an attempt to politically divide Kosovo and damage Kurti's image at a delicate moment for him; on the eve of local elections and amid tensions with American diplomacy. According to sources from Kosovo, part of the political class there considers this protest as a "political maneuver by Tirana" to exert direct influence on internal developments in Pristina.
Unusually, the Albanian government also decided to temporarily lift the toll on Rruga e Kombit, a decision directly linked to enabling mass participation from Kosovo. This gesture was read by political opponents as confirmation that the protest was institutionally supported and encouraged.
Meanwhile, for the citizens of Tirana, this day turned into a nightmare. The main roads were blocked since the morning, traffic was paralyzed, and a good part of the citizens did not arrive on time to work or school. Chaos that will continue over the weekend due to the Tirana Marathon that is expected to close several central axes again.
This protest also created divisions in Tirana. The DP rejected it with the argument that it was organized by Edi Rama. So did many other parties.
Instead of conveying unity and support for the Hague issue, today's protest seems to have brought more division, political tensions and opened a new chapter of clashes between Tirana and Pristina. It remains to be seen whether this was simply a symbolic patriotic act, or a calculated political move by a Prime Minister seeking influence across the border.
