The mother of the deceased 14-year-old Martin Cani, Florina, spoke tonight on "Opinion" for the first time after the publication of very sensitive images in several media outlets. She says that she has not been able to see the video of the fight near the "Fan Noli" school in the capital, after which her son lost his life, and that she is very shocked!
" To be honest, we are trying to get a little bit of ourselves and turn the pain into strength. The pain increases every day, but we don't want to lose Martin with his memories. However, I was extremely shocked, a great psychological shock. We have thanked the media for standing by us, but it was shocking! I didn't know the video was published, I couldn't watch it! ", she said.
He says that the authorities could have done more to fully uncover the tragic event.
" We are following the court hearings step by step, there were several cases where I did not go because I could not cope as a mother. The police and the state should have discovered this. The perpetrator is before the court, but he has not yet received a sentence. I have said that I will follow the court procedures, but we are waiting. The question marks are big, I myself as a mother do. There is manipulation in all directions! It was not a gang of criminals, it was children. There was no one else, it is clear who hit him ," he said.
He emphasized that regardless of the intention of the first person who published those images, it could have been avoided, as there are other forms of awareness-raising.
" We live with pain and I don't want this part to appear from time to time. If it crosses the red line, everyone should get what they deserve. There are different forms if you want to raise your voice, not by showing the extremely heavy video. There are moments when we both cry together, there are moments when we come out. We are turning it into strength, I don't want my wound to appear... ", she added.
This is Florina's first public reaction, after days ago the media circulated serious footage of a fight between minors. In the video, the minors appeared with the relevant labels and generalities. In this regard, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office has registered a criminal proceeding for "disclosure of secret acts or data".
Martin Cani was murdered on November 18, 2024, a few meters from the 9-year "Fan Noli" school in the capital, by his peer, Mario Përlleshaj. The latter is being tried for the criminal offense of "murder in qualifying circumstances" against two or more people.
Currently, the case in question is being tried on merits at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana.
