Lawyer Marsid Gupi spoke about the phenomenon where voters from the diaspora are publishing their votes through videos on social networks.
He said that with these videos they try to show an act of loyalty to the party they vote for, but instead of positive effects, this has negative effects, because according to him, the vote becomes invalid.
"While there is a legal obligation that sets out certain rules regarding the secrecy of the vote, violating them normally constitutes a criminal offense. The idea is that this harms the process and do these voters know that, by publishing their video vote where they try to show an act of loyalty, they are actually harming the party for which they give their will," he said on the Review show, on Euronews Albania.
Gupi emphasized that this only harms and invalidates the vote, harming the respective party, and leads to the initiation of legal proceedings for the voter, therefore, he called on all voters from the diaspora not to make this mistake.
"It is right that the sentence can be from 3 months to three years, but the essence is that this publication does not serve the party they vote for, since the vote is declared invalid. While a criminal process can be initiated against them, this is a negative phenomenon that must be stopped and I call on all diaspora voters not to publish their vote, because their will is lost and they will have problems with the law. From a procedural point of view, if the prosecution or SPAK, whoever is involved, initiates investigations for an individual or in collaboration, it begins with a summons letter to take security measures," said lawyer Gupi.
