"Rama clashes 'head to head' with Greece", Greek media: The

The Greek newspaper "Protothema" writes that Prime Minister Rama is leading a return of tensions in Greek-Albanian relations, where according to them the latter tries to appear as a respecter of "European authorities" to overcome the Greek veto on the Beleri case.

Encouraged by the support offered to Albania by the main European countries, primarily Germany, Rama chooses a one-on-one conflict with Greece, hoping that the pressure exerted will soften Greece's reaction and that the extension of Fredi Beleri's detention and therefore, the pending case for the Municipality of Himara will create fatigue both for the Europeans and for Athens, writes "Protothema".

The Greek government and Prime Minister Mitsotakis himself, however, sent the message in every way that the Greek position will remain firm and there will be no further steps in the European direction of the country as long as the result of the elections in Himara is not recognized and permission is not given to Belerin was sworn in as the new mayor.

Chancellor Scholz's statement, which expressed his support for Albania, caused confusion due to his reference to a qualified majority decision, which of course is not the case in the EU, where unanimity is the rule for decision-making on enlargement, it is emphasized in writing.

For Mr. Rama and those who support him, there is no alternative or way to bypass the Greek veto and arguments are put forward that this is how the expansion towards the Western Balkans is put at risk. A process that everyone knows that, even if it starts without problems, it will take years because of the serious problems that exist in the Rule of Law, with corruption, organized crime.

The goal is simply to keep the countries of the Western Balkans in the European orbit, so that this is an incentive to modernize and democratize them and stay away from Russian or Chinese influence.

Rama seems determined to take the confrontation with Greece to the extreme and he is doing this not only in an attempt to show strength to maintain a nationalist discourse that will attribute Albania's failures to Greece's attitude, but mainly because he does not want that the new mayor of Himara is someone who does not control him and will be able to create problems in the plan of the supposed touristic exploitation of the coastal area of Himara.
