The ISP has recently published a list of 13 names of politicians and high officials who have been investigated for corruption or abuse of office.
First on the list is former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, who in 1993 was sentenced to 12 years in prison for abuse of office and corruption. But after 5 years, in 1998, Nano was acquitted.
Ilir Meta, one of the politicians who has been on the scene for 3 decades, in 2011 was accused of two criminal offenses, that of corruption and abuse of office. But the case for Meta at that time went all the way to the Supreme Court, which overturned the decision and declared him innocent.
But two former ministers are also investigated. Lulzim Basha and Fatmir Mediu were accused in 2007 and 2008 of the same criminal acts, abuse of office and corruption. Former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri was investigated and convicted by the court.
