Intense rainfall overnight caused flooding in several urban areas of the city of Lezha, as the underground sewage system failed to cope with the high volume of water.
As a result, water rose to the surface and flooded streets in the “11 Janari” residential blocks as well as in the “11.2 hectare” area in the “Besëlidhja” neighborhood. The water level significantly hindered pedestrian and vehicle movement.
The Municipal Police intervened by blocking several road axes and directing vehicles towards alternative routes to ensure safety.
The situation was also affected by the works that have been underway for several months on the sewage and wastewater network. The project aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the city, but has currently slowed the evacuation of water.
The rains also caused power outages in the city and several surrounding villages. The Electricity Distribution Operator teams are on the ground repairing the faults and restoring power to the affected areas.
