The intensity of precipitation is expected to increase in the coming hours, peaking on Friday. The rains will be concentrated mainly in the northern and southern areas.
The Institute of Geosciences has declared an orange alert for the regions of Shkodër, Lezhë, Kukës, Vlorë and Gjirokastër. According to forecasts, during the next 24 hours the amount of precipitation could reach up to 90 millimeters.
Authorities predict that high intensity rain and thunderstorms will create local problems. The rainfall could cause landslides and flooding in urban areas, depending on the capacity of the sewage systems.
Other counties will be affected by moderate rainfall.
The situation is most sensitive in the Shkodra region. Rainfall in the Drin and Buna river basins is expected to increase flows and increase the risk of flooding in the Nënshkodra area.
Increased flows are also expected in the Mat, Ishëm, Erzen, Shkumbin, Seman and Vjosa rivers, with the possibility of limited local flooding.
In the north, east and southeast, at altitudes above 1000 meters above sea level, precipitation will fall in the form of snow.
Temperatures will increase slightly. Minimum values will drop to 2 degrees Celsius, while maximums will reach up to 15 degrees.
