The next court hearing against the former mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, has taken place in the Court of Elbasan, who requests to stay at home for the remainder of his sentence due to health conditions.
The court ordered the summoning of forensic experts who will verify the alleged state of health of Safet Gjic.
The next hearing where forensic experts will appear in court to receive instructions is November 14 at 11:45.
The former mayor of Kukës is sentenced for passive corruption and abuse of office.
In his request to judge Suela Lika, the defense lawyer relied on article 59/a point C of the Criminal Code, according to which a convicted person who has less than 2 years left in prison can stay at home due to the condition health.
Safet Gjici, sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, still has 1 year and 2 months of remaining sentence to pay, meanwhile he is currently hospitalized in a private hospital.
According to the lawyer, the former mayor of Kukës suffers from problems of the cardiovascular system, aortic stenosis and severe form of diabetes. Jançe says that Gjici has suffered from these problems before, but the difficult psychological condition in prison has also aggravated his health condition.
