At a ceremony organized in honor of the United States Constitution Day, where SPAK leader Altin Dumani, the new Minister of Justice Besfort Lamallari, and the Speaker of the Assembly Niko Peleshi were invited, Charge d'Affaires Nancy VanHorn emphasized the importance of the fundamental principles behind the Constitution and its impact on building a just and democratic society.
VanHorn emphasized that the Constitution is much more than a legal document, it is a powerful commitment to protect the rights of individuals and to help build a fair and functional system that enables every citizen to live in freedom and dignity. She called on Albania to strengthen its commitment to the fight against corruption, describing it as an obstacle to the country's development and stability.

"On Constitution Day, we are reminded that the principles of a functioning democracy include the protection of individual rights, the separation of powers, freedom of speech, and the rule of law. These principles are not simply abstract ideals; they are the foundation of trust between governments and their peoples," VanHorn said.
In an appeal to the Albanian authorities, she called on judges, prosecutors, civil society and the free press to remain steadfast in the fight against corruption and to work tirelessly to strengthen trust between citizens and the institutions that serve them.
"Judges, prosecutors, members of civil society and a free press are the guardians of the rights of every Albanian citizen. You have the power to ensure that justice is not just a word, but a reality for all Albanians. You have the responsibility to uphold fairness, transparency and accountability. And you have the opportunity to strengthen trust between people and the institutions that serve them. This work requires courage, the courage to make difficult decisions, to resist corruption and to stand firm in the face of pressure. As you continue your vital work, remember that a constitution is more than a legal document. It is a living promise to protect rights, uphold justice and build a better future for all," she added.
The Charge d'Affaires' statement also served as a reminder to all those who hold responsibility for the rule of law that they have a great duty to protect and fulfill the ideals of the Constitution, providing transparency and accountability at every level of society.
