US reduces interest in Albania? Rubio hosts Macedonian minister, ignores
North Macedonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timço Mucunski, and US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in Washington

At a time when in our country, the posts and "retweets" of the American embassy in Tirana are the only connection we have left with the US, our neighbors hold meetings with high-ranking figures across the Atlantic.

Albania seems to be outside the lens of the United States of America. At a time when in our country, the posts and “retweets” of the American embassy in Tirana are the only connection we have left with the US, our neighbors hold meetings with high-ranking figures across the Atlantic.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held an official meeting in Washington today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, Timco Mucunski, where the focus was on bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation.

According to the US State Department, the meeting highlighted the strong relationship between the US and North Macedonia and shared interests in regional stability, economic cooperation, and NATO.

Mucunski, on the other hand, confirmed Skopje's commitment to advancing political dialogue with Washington and institutionalizing the strategic partnership through the implementation of the Joint Action Plan, which emerged from the strategic dialogue launched in 2022.

Meanwhile in Albania, an anonymous congratulatory message for the May 11 elections has become a bone of contention for the parties, with each reading it from different perspectives. This “silence” situation on the part of the US shows once again that Albania is being ignored from across the Atlantic.

Having not had an ambassador in Tirana for almost 2 years, and since January having not had any official communication from Washington about Albania, makes you think that our country is not in the Trump administration's plans.

Although the government is trying to lure investments from people close to Trump (the case of Jared Kushner with Sazan), and the opposition is spending millions on lobbying, Washington today seems more distant than ever from Albanians. Is this an ignorance of the entire current political caste in the country, or a disregard for Albania, this remains to be seen in the coming months. / Pamphlet
