Former prosecutor Eugen Beci has stated that the publication of footage of the fight between Prince Leka and his ex-wife, Elia Zaharia, damages the investigation.
Beci made the comments in Euronews Albania, where he said that the publication of the video prepares the evidence and circumstances that the parties are expected to declare in Court.
He also said that regarding the denigration of the figure from the publication of the video, it is up to Prince Leka whether or not to file a report with the Police.
"In the opinion of every citizen who is under obligation, who has or has witnessed a criminal offense, he should certainly report it. The criminal code treats that citizen like any other citizen of Albania. As for the administration of any material evidence, there is a special procedure for administering the evidence.
The judicial police officer who administers the evidence presents the chain to the prosecution of the general jurisdiction, in the specific case in Tirana. OPGJ keeps a record. Should the video come out?
In the case, the prosecuting body, which starts from the Police and continues to the prosecution, does not express itself, the publication of the video harms the development of an investigation as objective and accurate as possible. As necessary as the video is for the Police and Prosecutor's Office, it is also necessary for the investigation.
Its publication prepares the evidence and circumstances that must be declared to the Prosecutor's Office by all subjects who are involved in the actions. If they give different explanations to the prosecution, then this is a plus for the prosecution to continue the investigations. Then regarding the denigration of the image, it remains in their hands to report it", said Beci.
