The lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu said that the officialization by the Census of 2.4 million inhabitants will greatly damage the Albanian economy. According to him, this figure will no longer attract foreign investments, as it is a quota below the accepted figures.
Spahiu also tells a conversation he had some time ago with the late writer Ismail Kadare.
"Today's topic is related to an event or advisory meeting that I had some time ago with Ismail Kadare. The essence of the Census gave me a very interesting orientation, if Albania goes below 2.4 million inhabitants, it will harm Albania's geo-political interests. There is a red line of great power considerations for some states that fall below a minimum such as 2 million. The officialdom of a state of 2.4 million inhabitants completely removed from the international market.
Who company and corporation can come to a state of 2.4 million inhabitants. All these corporations have criteria for the customer who comes to a market as small as Albania. The officially declared small population harms Albania. Italy does not count the 40 million Italians who live in the diaspora. Even Greece has half of its population abroad, but it is based on those who are in the country. I talked with Kadare when I contested the first census. He gave me some advice. He told me that the problems are bigger than ethnicity and religion", said Spahiu for "Report TV".
