The fire situation in Albania is also being monitored by the US Embassy in Tirana, which has sent a message to all American citizens to be careful and avoid dangerous areas.
“The U.S. Embassy in Tirana continues to monitor several fires across the country and urges all U.S. citizens to exercise caution in areas threatened by fires. Several areas across the country are under evacuation orders. U.S. citizens in Albania who need assistance can contact the U.S. Embassy by phone at 4224-7285 (calling from Albania) or +355-4224-7285 (calling from outside Albania), or by email at: [email protected],” an official announcement from the Embassy states.
The Embassy advises American citizens of the following actions they should take:
– US citizens should avoid affected areas, especially those under evacuation orders, and follow police instructions regarding road closures or traffic disruptions. Monitor local news for updates on wildfire conditions and plan your routes accordingly. Google Maps can also provide real-time information on road closures and wildfire activity.
– Forest fires are common in Albania. Smoke inhalation poses a serious health risk, even if you are not near the flames. If a forest fire is near your location, including your home, evacuate immediately to an unaffected area.
– Do not attempt to drive through areas affected by wildfires or dense smoke. Seek an alternate route or consider postponing your trip if you do not have an alternate route. If you have no choice but to drive through wildfire smoke, drive slowly with windows open, exterior air vents closed, and headlights on for better visibility.
– We strongly encourage U.S. citizens in affected areas who are safe to monitor local news and contact their loved ones directly and/or update their status on social media.
