GJJKO has postponed the session for the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, related to the Gërdec tragedy.
Former minister Fatmir Mediu, in his speech to the media after the postponement of the session for "Gërdec", said that the witnesses were called to blame the minister.
While excusing himself in front of the cameras, Mediu said that today the head of the legal sector declared that every act was in the interest of serving the country. According to him, the summoning of witnesses is the obligation of the prosecution, to ensure that they are present.
"The first comment is that I want to thank the media for following this process. Witnesses have been called by the prosecution to testify. Today, the representative, the head of the legal directorate pointed out that every act issued by the minister was in accordance with the law. Regarding the summoning of witnesses, this is the obligation of the prosecution, to make it possible for them to be present. If they have no questions about the witnesses themselves, they should be willing to listen to our questions.
I think that if there are shortcomings in how the prosecution acted, it is not the defense's responsibility. They should have done it with the witnesses called by the prosecution. I think it is the company that had the contract. The company has made the transactions that have made this process. I have waited 17 years, I am ready to be asked about anything", said Mediu.
Former minister Mediu is accused of abuse of office by SPAK in relation to the tragedy of Gërdec, where 26 were killed and hundreds injured from the explosion of the weapons dismantling workshop.
Earlier, the court asked the police to notify Mihal Deligjorgjin and Dritan Minxolli, who are wanted as witnesses, but their addresses have not yet been found. For the second time, the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, accused of abuse of office, appealed not to remain silent and for the witnesses to come to the court and speak.
