Përrenjasi Hospital, which for years has suffered from difficult conditions and the lack of equipment such as radiography, was denounced in 2018.
At that time, the hospital had old equipment over 60 years old, which did not offer efficient services to the 40,000 residents of the area, as well as to the cases of accidents that occurred.
After the denunciation, in 2020, the Ministry of Health invested 25 million lek for the reconstruction of the hospital, focusing mainly on the renovation of the facade and some internal adjustments. However, the necessary equipment to provide a fast and efficient medical service, such as radiography, is still lacking.
This problem has forced the residents of Përrenjas and the surrounding villages to travel 40 minutes to Librazhd to carry out a graphic.
The lack of this service has created great concerns for those who need urgent medical assistance, being deprived of an essential service that should be provided near their hospital.
The hospital received a "loan" x-ray machine from the Elbasan Hospital, but it has not been installed yet, as the tub for washing the films, a key part for the operation of the device, is missing. The cost of the bathtub ranges from 2,000 to 5,000 euros, but the Ministry of Health has not yet managed to provide it.
The citizens of Përrenjas expressed their concern about this lack and emphasized that the journey to Librazhd is a great burden for them, especially for those with limited economic opportunities.
The radiography service, which used to be offered in the emergency room of Prerenjasi Hospital, has been out of order for several years, even though 25 million Lek were spent on the hospital building.
A nurse of Prerenjasi Hospital, in a conversation with Fiks's colleague, affirmed that the x-ray machine is in the hospital, but it is not working due to the lack of a bathtub and a defect that it has. She added that it was said that very soon interventions will be made to solve the problem, but there was no set deadline.
In addition, the head of the emergency service at the Përrenjasi Hospital, Bashkim Vasku, explained that the radiography is out of order due to the defects it had and that the equipment received from the Elbasan Hospital was not installed due to its defects. He said that they are waiting for a new device and that they have made requests for this. According to him, at the moment all patients who need a chart are sent to Librazhd Hospital.
On the other hand, contrary to the white shirts working at the Librazhd Hospital, deputy director Astrit Askurti confirmed that the equipment that was sent from the Elbasan Hospital is in working condition, but cannot be used for radiography, as it came without a tub. He said that the device only worked for scoping, but due to the lack of a tub, graffiti could not be made.
Askurti emphasized that a request has been made for a bathtub and promised that the problem will be solved in January next year.
This scandal highlights not only the lack of necessary equipment for health services, but also the shortcomings of resource management and the delays in solving problems that directly affect the lives of citizens./TCH
