The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has conducted searches at a luxury complex in the south of the country.
According to preliminary sources, the searches focused on several properties linked to Ergys Agas and Ermal Beqiri. More specifically, it is reported that two villas belonging to Agas and one belonging to Beqiri in the south of the country were searched.
SPAK prosecutors and BKH agents have conducted physical searches in the villas within the complex and have seized several materials and equipment. The searches are reportedly related to the AKSHI scandal.
It is worth noting that Ergys Agasi and Ermal Beqiri are internationally wanted on charges of illegal competition through illegal deprivation of liberty and participation in a criminal group. According to SPAK investigations, they are suspected of having ordered the kidnapping of businessman Gerond Meçe and forcing him to withdraw his complaints regarding AKSHI tenders.
In this case, former director of AKSHI, Mirlinda Karçanaj, and former deputy director Hava Delibashi are under "house arrest", while lighter security measures have been imposed on several businessmen and a police officer.
We recall that earlier in early March, SPAK took over the file related to the disappearance of a quantity of expensive wine seized from a resort owned by Ergys Agas. The wine bottles were seized during inspections carried out by SPAK at Agas's properties, at the time he was declared wanted along with Ermal Beqiri. Both are suspected of being leaders of a criminal group that, according to investigations, kidnapped businessmen and forced them to withdraw from tender competitions of the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI).
After the seizure, the quantity of wine was left in the custody of a cousin of Agas. However, when the customs authorities went the next day to collect and store it, they found that the bottles had disappeared. In this case, Agas' cousin is being investigated by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for actions that allegedly prevented the truth from being revealed, as he did not provide explanations for the location of the seized wine.
According to the expert report, the value of the wine found in the cellar is around 1.4 million euros. Experts estimate that if the bottles were sold individually on the market, their value could increase at least twice.
