SPAK gives the claim, demands 2 years and 6 months in prison for Fredi Beleri

The Special Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime and Corruption filed this Tuesday the complaint against the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

SPAK has demanded a sentence of 2 years and 6 months for the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

Meanwhile, for Pandeli Kokaveshi, a sentence of 2 years of imprisonment was requested, which was converted to 4 years of probation.

This measure for Kokavesh was given because he has health problems, as well as his minor child has health problems.

This Tuesday was the session where the conclusions for Beler were given by the two special prosecutors, Adnand Xholi and Dorina Bejko, while the next session will be held on February 28, at 2:30 p.m.

We remind you that Fredi Beleri was arrested in the premises of a bar in Himare, just 2 days before the local elections of May 14, 2023, after he was caught red-handed with his associate Pandeli Kokaveshi buying votes. For a long time, this issue has become the main topic of discussion in the relations between Greece and Albania. It was Greece that threatened our country, which is seeking EU entry, as it declared that Albania will face consequences if the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, continues to be prevented from taking office.

How was Beleri discovered buying votes?

The lawsuit against Beler was filed on May 8 by a person with the initials AR who told the police that Beler and other members of his electoral staff offered him money in exchange for a vote.

After the denunciation, he agreed to meet Beler again and record the conversation to prove the accusations against him.

According to the prosecutor's file, Beleri promised payments from 50 to 200 euros in exchange for the vote, as well as a promise for the benefit scheme of Greek citizenship and pension in the Greek state.

Two days later, on May 10, he met Beleri again in the morning at a bar in the Potami area. There they agreed that the AR citizen would draw up a list of voters who would vote for Beler and then deliver it to him.

Later in the afternoon, he told Beler that he had secured a list of 13 people. Beler promised him a payment of 50 euros for each voter and 300 euros for him when he was convinced that the people whose names were on the list had voted for him. .

The AR citizen met with a person named Pandeli Kokaveshi to hand over the list of voters for Beleri. The latter gave him 40,000 new lek as payment for 8 votes, saying that he provided the other names on the list.

"Citizen AS asked him if Fredi had given him anything for him and he told him that they would talk again", it is stated in the prosecutor's file.
