SPAK prosecutors are expected to give the conclusions of the investigation and request the punishment for the two defendants, Fredi Beleri and his friend Pandeli Kokaveshi, who have been in prison since May 12, 2023 when they were arrested on the charge of vote buying.
The prosecution accuses Beler of "active corruption in the elections", claiming that it has proven beyond any doubt that he had offered a police associate 50 euros for every vote he could find in his favor as mayor of Himara. His accomplice, Pandeli Kokaveshi, is accused of the same criminal act.
Beleri has made several requests to get out of the cell in order to be sworn in and take office as Mayor of Himara, but they have been rejected by all levels of the courts.
