SPAK has named the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, as a defendant.
It is learned that businessman Elman Abule has also been officially named a defendant by SPAK in the Veliaj case. The businessman, who is currently under house arrest, has appeared before SPAK where he will be charged with money laundering.
Mayor Veliaj has been in custody since February 10th and is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. The charges will be officially communicated to him on Wednesday (July 23rd).
Erion Veliaj and the mayor's lawyers have been officially notified by the Special Prosecution Office.
It is not known whether the mayor of Tirana will leave the detention cells in Durrës for a few hours to face the special prosecutors, Altin Dumani and Ols Dado.
What remains unclear is whether SPAK will forward the file to the Special Court or postpone the investigation deadlines.
Erion Veliaj was arrested in his office on February 10 and is being investigated along with his wife Ajola Xoxa, as well as 6 other businessmen.
