A holiday hotspot in Europe has been dubbed 'Little Italy' by holidaymakers, due to its beaches and cheaper prices. In recent months, Albania has seen an influx of visitors.

The increase in popularity of the country is mainly thanks to social media influencers who have vacationed on the Albanian Riviera. But the country has attracted even more high-profile visitors, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who visited the Albanian coast with her family.

In an article in the "Financial Times", a vacationer, Nicola Ferrero, described Albania as "little Italy". At the beginning of this year, Nicola vacationed in Albania because she wanted to experience a new culture and cuisine. But it is not only the attraction of exploring a new destination that is attracting vacationers from all over the world, but also the prices in Albania are cheaper.

The Financial Times reported: "As prices have risen in Italy, international tourists have been lured by lower Albanian costs on everything from hotel accommodation to restaurants and sunbeds."

Wizz Air, easyJet and British Airways all operate direct routes between the UK and the Albanian capital, Tirana, with flight prices starting from £28 for a one-way ticket.

From Tirana, it is a four-hour drive to cities such as Ksamil, Himare and Saranda, which have become popular destinations on the Albanian Riviera.

Apart from affordable flights, food and drinks are cheap in Albania. If you fancy a trip to the Albanian Riviera, there are several beaches to try.

The northernmost part of the Riviera is Vlora, which most people will visit before heading down to the coast.

There are hundreds of properties to rent in Vlora, and rooms start from just £20 per night. Further south on the coastline is Dhërmiu, one of the largest and most famous beaches, so you won't struggle to find a spot. And in the southern part of the Riviera is Ksamil.

If you prefer to stay in this area, rooms are slightly more expensive, starting at £32 per night. Holidaymakers heading to Albania can also rent Maldivian-style beach huts for just £8 a day.
