The OSCE has reacted to the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja, an event that shocked the capital this afternoon.
The OSCE Presence in Albania strongly condemns this violent act.
According to the OSCE, the full circumstances of the attack are still under investigation and it is important to ensure that justice is served through a full and prompt legal process.
" We are deeply shocked and saddened by the shooting inside the Court of Appeal in Tirana, which took the life of Judge Astrit Kalaja and injured two other people.
We express our condolences to the family and colleagues of Judge Kalaja and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
The OSCE Presence in Albania strongly condemns this violent act. Attacks against judges are direct attacks on the rule of law and democratic institutions.
While the full circumstances of the attack are still under investigation, we welcome the swift arrest of the suspected perpetrator and emphasize the importance of ensuring justice is served through a full and prompt legal process.
"The Presence stands in solidarity with the judicial community of Albania and remains committed to supporting efforts that strengthen the security and independence of the judicial system ," the OSCE said.
