The crisis in agriculture deepens, the increase in oil prices 'hits'

Farmers in the Kruja district have raised concerns about the significant increase in fuel prices and agricultural inputs, noting that the price hikes began even before the recent developments in the Middle East. According to them, the costs of fertilizers, seeds and agricultural services have increased by 30 to 40 percent, significantly weighing on the farm economy.

This situation is being directly reflected in labor costs, where plowing one hectare of land alone has increased by about 5,000 new leks, while other processes have also become more expensive, making production in many cases no longer justify the investment.

Farmers say that facing these prices is forcing them to go into debt or give up their tools, while also criticizing support schemes.

"This year we are forced to borrow money from friends and relatives to work the land, and some of us are even selling aggregates because we don't have money for oil... The subsidy scheme is not efficient because the amount of oil that the state gives us is not enough even for one work process, let alone to cope with all the processes... We ask the state to stop and stop the abuse that is being done, whether with oil or with inputs, because they have not entered Albania today, they have been for several months, and there is no way the price can be raised in this way for a commodity that has been stored for a long time ," one of the farmers told "News 24".

Meanwhile, farmers are demanding intervention from institutions to control the market and avoid price abuses, warning that the current situation seriously jeopardizes the continuation of agricultural activity.
