The Ministry of Agriculture and Development announces that the sale and trading of live poultry has been banned in Sukth, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Maminas, Gjepalaj, Rashbull, Thumanë, Bubq, Prezë and Vorë.
According to the ministry, other small family farms in the area are also being monitored. The Public Health Institute has also been notified to carry out the necessary procedures for control and risk assessment.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development instructs farmers and poultry farmers across the country to increase vigilance and cooperate with authorities, to take measures to implement biosecurity on farms and premises where they breed poultry, and to carry out the movement of poultry for commercial purposes only after being authorized by the Official Veterinarian of the Service with the Veterinary Animal Movement Certificate.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the framework of transparency with the public, informs that today another case of the presence of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) has been confirmed, in a poultry breeding and production facility in the quarantined protection zone (3 km) located in the village of Maliq Muҫo, Rashbull Administrative Unit, Durrës Municipality.
The regional veterinary service together with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development immediately appeared at the facility to assess the health status of the birds, finding 1848 dead birds. The structures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the relevant subordinate institutions took immediate measures, after the notification for the establishment to be placed in quarantine, where official samples were taken, which were sent and analyzed within the day at the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine.
After confirmation by ISUV of the positive result of the analysis, a meeting of the National Crisis Center was convened at the MAFRD with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Local Government and the Institute of Public Health.
Ministerial Order No. 200 dated 3.3.2025 and Order 240, dated 9.3.2025 “On taking restrictive measures for the prevention and control of avian influenza disease in poultry, in open environments and in live animal markets” are in force.
We inform farmers and breeders of any type of poultry species that the movement of poultry from the farms of the Administrative Units of Sukth, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Maminas, Gjepalaj, Rashbull, Thumanë, Bubq, Prezë and Vorë continues to be prohibited, in implementation of Ministerial Order No. 240 dated 9.3.2025 "On taking restrictive measures for the prevention and control of avian influenza disease in poultry, in open environments and in live animal markets", which stipulates:
– Prohibition of the sale and trading of live poultry in open areas and live animal markets in the territory of the Administrative Units of Sukth, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Maminas, Gjepalaj, Rashbull, Thumanë, Bubq, Prezë and Vorë.
– Prohibition of the movement of live poultry from farm to farm and from farm to live animal markets, in the territory of the Administrative Units of Sukth, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Maminas, Gjepalaj, Rashbull, Thumanë, Bubq, Prezë and Vorë.
– Allowing the movement of live birds according to table 4, appendix 5, of Order No. 177, dated 28.3.2023 “On the approval of the National Avian Influenza Surveillance Program”, only with the authorization of the official veterinarian to the slaughterhouse, after the PCR test has been performed and the birds have tested negative for Avian Influenza Disease and are accompanied by the health certificate for the movement of birds, in the territory of the Administrative Units of Sukth, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Maminas, Gjepalaj, Rashbull, Thumanë, Bubq, Prezë and Vorë.
The Regional Veterinary Service is also supervising and monitoring through tracking and sampling other small family farms, present in the protection and surveillance area, to send them without delay to the Reference Laboratory - ISUV.
Today alone, 211 farms with 2958 heads have been monitored by 5 groups of Official Control Veterinarians present in the field. The Institute of Public Health has also been notified to carry out the necessary procedures for control and risk assessment.
