Shkruar nga PamfletiFormer President Ilir Meta appeared today in the glass cage of the courtroom for the first time since his sensational arrest on October 21, 2024.
This Monday, April 27, 2026, the trial on the merits of former President Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, and three other defendants for the same investigative file began at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC).
Upon entering the hall, he greeted the audience, first with two fingers up and then making an eagle with his hands, saying 'Albania, of Albanians!'
Meta, who is accused of money laundering, passive corruption and concealment of assets, has requested that court hearings be broadcast live to the public, in order to guarantee full transparency.
For this, he previously addressed the court with a special letter, emphasizing that transparency and accountability are an obligation for every institution and public official.
Representatives of the Freedom Party are at the Special Court to closely follow the hearing.
The leader of the Freedom Party was arrested on October 21, 2024, as he was entering Tirana, in a special forces operation. The footage of the arrest remains his last public appearance.
So far, Meta has denied all the accusations, while this process has seen for the first time a direct confrontation with prosecutors in the courtroom, in the presence of cameras.
