Braho in KLP: 40 more investigators to be added to BKH, SPAK not to investigate corruption offences up to 50 thousand lek

The head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, is reporting to the KLP regarding the activities of the Special Prosecution Office for the year 2025, while also answering questions from council members.

One of the questions addressed to Braho was about what could be done to reduce the workload of SPAK prosecutors. Braho said that the corps of 20 prosecutors is sufficient, but the level of professionalization of BKH agents should be increased. In this context, he added that during 2026, 40 more investigators will be recruited and this will affect the workload and increase the quality of investigations. But another idea, previously articulated by Altin Dumani, Braho repeated the request to review the limit of the criminal offense of corruption. He emphasized that the current threshold of 50 thousand lek is too low and brings a large number of cases to SPAK, so it should be increased.

" The workload is high, it will increase further. The number of prosecutors, 20 is sufficient, given the system of Prosecutor's Offices throughout Albania. We need to find the most appropriate way to raise the profile of the cases we have under investigation and we need to increase the professional level of BKH investigators to facilitate the work of prosecutors. This year we will start recruiting 40 more investigators in BKH and it will be a new high number that will affect the workload and increase the quality of investigations. The competition process for 10 officers from the judicial police services has been completed. We have planned to give another procedure for another number of officers from the judicial police service. Regarding the legal changes, I do not see anything that is wrong at this moment that should be changed to reduce the workload, except for the discussions we have had before on active and passive corruption. The 50 thousand lek band should be seen, but it is a process that takes its time. It should be higher, this increases the workload of cases, the same thing for "The criminal offenses related to procurement are a small part of our assessment ," Braho said.
