The Albanian Road Authority confirmed a month ago that it has conducted inspections on the lower Burrel ring road following problems with landslides.
According to the institution, a geological study conducted by a licensed company identified several landslide planes with depths ranging from 4 to 13 meters. These data exceed the predictions of the initial implementation project.
The ARA announced that it is conducting a detailed expertise on the situation and will present a technical and economic solution to stop the landslides and protect the investment made.
However, a month after being made aware of the problem, no intervention has been initiated on the ground to repair or stop the deterioration of the situation.
The road segment, which is about 900 meters long, has recorded four collapses, two of which are of considerable size. The damage has deepened over the days, increasing the cost of rehabilitation.
The project for the arrangement and asphalting of the ring road was financed by the government through the ARRSH with a fund of 1.2 million euros. The works were completed in October last year, but the facility has not been approved and has not yet been taken over by the authority. Due to the collapses of the last four months, it is expected that additional funds will be needed to stabilize the segment.
